Lip routine: hold without drying out β the simple guide
We all want color that lasts, without the cakey effect. The good news: this result is possible with a short, gentle, and consistent routine. By following these simple steps, you'll protect the comfort of your lips while increasing their staying power throughout the day.
1) Prepare without irritating
Gentle micro-exfoliation (1β2Γ/week)
Exfoliation smooths the surface so the color adheres better. No need to rub hard: on dry, clean lips, apply a very light scrub then rinse with warm water. A soft cloth, a lip brush, or a light scrub are sufficient. The goal is to remove small pieces of skin without creating micro-irritations that would cause the color to run.
Hydrate intelligently
After exfoliating (or daily), apply a thin layer of balm and leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes. Before applying color, dab off any excess with a tissue. This step maintains comfort without creating a greasy film that would cause the formula to slide and affect its hold.
2) Apply thinly
Thin layers, clean results
For even hold, two thin coats are better than one thick coat. Apply a small amount to the center of your lips, then blend outward toward the corners. Wait a few seconds between coats to allow the product to settle. This method prevents buildup in the creases and results in a smooth finish.
Thin layer application = hold + comfort, without drying out.
Soft contour
If you're using a pencil, choose a shade that's very close to the color you're applying. Trace the outline smoothly, then blend inward slightly to blend the line. The edge stays clean, with no visible demarcation, and the color looks more natural.
3) Comfortable fit all day long
Blowing your nose, drinking, eating: the right reflexes
During the day, focus on gestures that preserve texture. Dab instead of rubbing when wiping your mouth. After a meal, add a very light touch-up to the center of your lips, then tap with your finger to blend the product with what's left. This micro-touch-up is often enough to boost intensity.
Invisible retouching
Keep a tissue and a mini mirror in your bag. If you feel a slight pull, a tiny dab of balm in the center can boost comfort without causing the color to bleed. The idea is to adjust without layering.
4) Common mistakes to avoid
Avoid applying a thick layer of balm just before applying color: the formula will slide and mark the glass. Avoid applying too generous layers, which will crack when they dry. Be wary of pencils that are significantly darker than the chosen shade, which will create a border that's too visible. Finally, don't rub your lips together to "make them stick": you'll break the film that's forming.
5) Express routine β recap
Micro-exfoliate once or twice a week, moisturize gently, apply in light layers, and wait a few seconds between each layer. During the day, touch up as needed with small touches, without rubbing. These simple habits increase your hold while maintaining comfort.
